Free yourself from Fear
Everyone has to deal with fear, no matter if they are super successful or just an ordinary Joe. On your journey to success you can be sure that the road ahead is littered with uncertainty and fear.
However some people are successful in their quest for success while others are not. So why is this? One of the key reasons is that the successful person has not fear in taking significant action again and again. They don’t fear failure, ridicule, lack of success or anything else. At least, if they do, they have enough belief in themselves to push the fear aside and to carry on regardless.
The following are my top tips to help you free yourself from fear!
1. Decide that success is the only option. A lot of people decide to do something or rather they decide to “try” to do something. This immediately puts in an element of doubt of being able to success. They “try” and if they don’t succeed they think “oh well at least I tried.“ You should ensure that you don’t leave yourself any other option but to succeed at what you want to do. If you do this you ensure that there is no room for fear to creep in!
2. Welcome risk with open arms! You have to show fear that you are the boss, you are in charge, you are the big enchilada! Sure making that sales call is difficult, talking to your boss or loved one is not going to be a piece of cake, however don’t avoid it – this produces more fear. Put your thoughts out there and tell them what it is you want. Did you know that one element of being successful is doing things that others are afraid to do?
3. Be prepared. Here’s something you many not know but a lot of the stress and concerns we feel are because we are not prepared for the task ahead. If you are going into battle, so to speak, unprepared of course you are going to feel more stress. Take time to prepare and find the solutions and answers before taking on a task. Don’t worry about it – make sure you are prepared.
4. Be in the moment. If you fail to live in the present moment and are constantly thinking of the past or wondering what will happen in the future, you will give yourself more fear and less success. Remember the past is done, and until time machines are commercially available you can’t change it. The future is also something we have little or no control over. Don’t worry about those things you can’t change!
5. Focus on the positive outcome. I think most of us are focused on expecting the worst outcome rather than the best one. Why we do this I don’t know! So instead of having this attitude decide now that you will focus on things actually working out. Of course i am not saying that negative things won’t happen, but if you live with that mindset you will never progress.
6. Relax! Don’t let stress take control. If you start to feel stressed, take a few moments to take a deep breath, inhale slowly and exhale again slowly. Don’t think that having a cigarette or a drink (or over eating) is going to help – it won’t. It is a known fact that our psychology follows physiology. Thus if our body is anxious our mind picks this up and then will feel anxious. Therefore do your breathing exercise, change your physical position and this can help you destress.
7. You don’t need to watch or read the news. It’s a fact that the newspapers and news channels are full of negativity. Instead of spending hours pouring over the papers and watching the rerun of the news channels find something more productive to do. If there is some super important news story, someone will tell you. But why fill yourself and surround yourself by negativity when you can avoid it? All that negativity will just make you more stressed and more fearful.
8. Realize that you are perfect the way you are. Sure we all need to hone our skills and improve on things but let me tell you that you have all the skills that you need to take on the current task, otherwise no one would have entrusted it to you. If you need to refine your skills decide to do it at a later point, but right now you can do this!
9. Don’t get overwhelmed. Creating a to do list is a great way to see what you have to do, what is important, what you can do quickly, once you have this list you can start to prioritise tasks. Each day focus on 5 important things from your to do list and do them. You will much more satisfaction when you get those 5 things fully done, rather than having 10 things half done. Sure it is a bit of psychological trick but it works!
These are just some small tips on how to conquer your fear and how to become less stressed. Fear is going to stop you, you have to stop it!
