Busy lifestyle? 4 tips to help you keep calm and carry on!
You know the last few weeks have been quite hectic for me, and there are some days that I felt like I was keeping my head above water. For example I have my day planned out then something unexpected comes up that is urgent and important and has to be done. All of a sudden my well planned days starts to get a little out of control! Sound familiar?
When something like this happens it can be easy to lose control and your cool. I know this happened to me recently trying to “work” with some colleagues. Everything on my project had been going to plan and every time I did something they found an issue!!
However I find a good deep breath is the first start and then I follow the following tips:
Life is life, like I always say, and we can´t control all of it. I have found that what we can do is “cope” with the situation and make each situation have the best outcome possible by using my tips below:
Remember you already have the skills you need to find solutions to challenges. For a moment cast your mind back to a challenge you had. Did you find a solution? I´ve had plenty of challenges in my life and looking back I can see I always found a way forward and you can to. At the present moment when the challenge happens take 10 seconds to remember you can cope and get through this!
- Always say I have go through similar experiences before and can do it again.
- Close your eyes and recall a tough situation and how you go through it.
- Challenges are there to make us stronger.
Initially what has happened seems huge and impossible, but it´s never as bad as it seems. A sudden email comes in, you read it and panic, you think “oh no, what will I do?” you panic and get yourself in a fluster! Rereading the email you see that actually the situation is not as bad as it may first have appeared, and you. You take a few moments, get a clearer picture on the situation and respond to the person that you understand that this is an emergency and the following is how it is going to be resolved!.
- Never reply to a person, email or situation without first stepping back from the situation and have a moment to think
- Challenges make you grow as a person, embrace the challenge
- Don´t get angry, keep smiling and never let people think less of you.
Deep breath, walk away from the situation. As I mentioned above the worst thing you can do is react right away to the situation right away. Get all the information clear in your head, and then make the best decision you can.
- Getting 5 minutes of air, helps clear your head and refocus.
- Deep breathing helps you relax, which is what you need at this very moment.
Water is the best drink! Although people may think they should grab a cup of coffee, water in face is the best thing you drink. Firstly to get a class of water you will need to walk to the water machine, kitchen, fridge etc. Cool water will literally cool you down. Focus on the water for the minute that it takes you to drink it. Again clear your head, have another class and then return to the situation at hand.
You´ll be surprised as how effective the above steps are for helping you cope with unexpected situations. Remember a couple of things, reacting straight away is not going to help! Getting stressed is not going to help. Lastly challenges help us grow to become stronger people!
