Write a journal to help improve your business (and life!)
A journal can help you with your building business efforts. Your journal can be a record of your successes. However I
Keeping a journal can help your business grow
do know that for some it can be easy to keep a journal, for others they struggle. In this blog post I will talk about keeping a journal for building your online business.
I find that by keeping a journal you can record what works, what doesn’t, what needs to be changed and more. It can also serve as a booster when you feel as if you are struggling, you can not your successes and winning strategies.
Write it and Achieve it
There´s no doubt about it, talking is great but talking may not get you closer to your goals. Sure you can talk about your goals, but writing them down makes them more real and concrete. So the first thing you must do, and I have said this before, is to write down your goals, dreams and aspirations. Look at them on paper and then ask yourself is that what you really want? Is this something that I can achieve? If your gut feeling is no, well then perhaps you need to re think your goals.
Let´s assume you have your goals written out, how is your journal going to help you?
Here are some tips for keeping a business building journal:
Write down what you wish to achieve this week. Be honest and write out an achievable goal for the week. I tell people don´t try to do everything as then when you only achieve 40% of your goal and feel bad.
Either on a sunday night or a monday morning write down what you plan to do over the next week. Beleive it or not this will help you achieve double what you normally achieve.
Sub divide your main goal into smaller goals, say over a 5 day period, now see what you can do each day.
Recap daily. Every day I want you to recap on what you did, what you achieved and how productive you really were. Did you give 100% to your business or 40% to your business and 60% to facebook and email? Be honest, find out where you have “leaks” in your day and then chose to rectify this the next day
Much of this is about self awareness that´s where the journal helps.
Each day have a goal in mind. Before you finish in the evening or go to bed, write out your goal for the next day. What do you need to carry forward? What do you need to do tomorrow? Again reflect on how well you did during the day and what you might need to improve on.
Honesty is the best policy. When you begin to keep your diary I want you to be honest with yourself. Did you achieve the best you could achieve today? Did you spend too much time on non business related activities? If so which ones and how will you prevent yourself from doing this tomorrow? Yeah it´s tough but it´s worth it.
Don´t let yourself away with anything. Your journal is your blueprint for your success. Be tough on yourself. If you are not achieving what you wanted then be honest (like I said above honesty is the best policy). Over the first few weeks maybe you won´t move as fast as you thought but you will learn so much that soon you will not be making the same mistakes and your success has to follow
Use your journal as a business compass. Feeling lost today? Not sure what went wrong? Need a pick me up? Refer back to your journal and start to repeat your successes. This is the power of your journal. It is your roadmap, your guide to your success. It is your future that you are writing!
Always refer back to it when you need more inspiration.
Believe it or not, putting your thoughts, concerns and success on paper will mean that you will have greater success than you are having now!
