5 Ways to Challenge Yourself in 2018

5 Ways to Challenge Yourself in 2018

Your organization grows at the rate that you do. Challenges force people to overcome their limits in order to succeed, and that prepares them for the next challenge. You can challenge yourself and grow your skills by seeking out new challenges in any bucket of your life, because the process of challenge, learning, and growth translates well to other areas of life. Here are just a few ideas that will prevent you from stagnating.

Climb a Mountain

Physical challenges are a great way to overcome the body’s most basic limitations, such as fatigue and the desire to take it easy. Choosing to climb a mountain is one of the best physical challenges, because it offers physical and mental benefits. It exercises most muscles without putting much strain on them, while also fighting stress and fear. It’s hard to get that kind of balance from anything other than climbing a mountain, so it’s a great choice.

Master a New Skill

Learning new things can get harder with age, but it also keeps the brain sharp and slows some of the mental effects of aging. More importantly, it also serves as a reminder that it is never too late to learn. Choosing a practical skill to master can also lead to new opportunities, which adds value to this challenge. In fact now might be the right time to Plan Your Success.

Plant a Garden

We live in a cause and effect universe. If you’re not getting the outputs you want, you need to change your inputs. Success and development takes time. We call this the principle of the harvest – you reap what you sew. Nothing teaches the process of cause, pause, and effect better than bringing the ground to life. Growing a garden is a test of patience. It can also be a matter of adaptability, since gardens often face unexpected challenges. Success provides a source of healthy food, exercise, and even health benefits, especially for aging individuals.

Adjust Your Budget

It’s easy to fall into a financial rut, but financial success requires constant effort and improvement. You can challenge yourself by striving to live within a smaller budget than normal. It will teach you what items you really need, and which things you can do without. The savings can be invested in the future, and the process can teach valuable skills. Whenever you find yourself in a plateau, that’s the time you need to dig deeper and sacrifice to win.

Break a Habit

Most people have a few bad habits that they struggle to break. Doing so is worth the effort, since it reminds you that you can change yourself for the better. Replacing a bad habit with a healthy one can also lead to improved health, greater happiness, and other benefits, so this challenge can lead to improvements in your quality of life.

Making Progress

Strength comes from overcoming adversity, so facing challenges is the best way to grow as a person. The type of challenge isn’t nearly as important as the simple act of facing it, so there are plenty of options. As long as you choose a difficult task and strive to complete it, you will build yourself into a better person.

Your business should be build from the foundations up

May 29, 2013 by Richard Butler Leave a Comment

Building your business from the foundations up

From this point on I want you to think about your business as a construction project. Much like building a house.

Now wait a minute Richard you might say, I don’t know how to build a house and anyways what does this have to do with building a business? Ok fair point and good question.

Let me explain

From my dealings with internet marketers I have found that they are truly unaware of what their business actually is.

They have no core definition of what business they are. Sure they throw out statements life internet marketer, info product developer, reseller of stuff, but they have no clear idea what their business is.

Of course you can have your finger in many pies once you are successful, however trying to be many things to many people at the start won’t work out.

Let’s take an example, the famous Richard Branson. Started off with a small record store and focused on this. He wanted to create an experience, a store with a difference. So he focused on building his business in this area. He did not diversify. He built his chain of music stores and then his recording label.

Did he get side tracked my the latest shinny object? No!, Did he jump from one business to another? No! Did he know what the core business was? Yes!

No Richard was no rich kid who had mommy and daddy paying for his business. He was even more ordinary than you and me. But he set a goal and worked towards it with determination. He knew what the core of his business was.

Now of course Virgin is a brand name and he’s involved in air transport, broadband services and rail services.

He did things the right way. Focused on the core and then expanded. I think as internet marketers many of us focus on the expanded without thinking about the core.

We try to have too many strings to our bow without know what our bow is in the first place!

Building your business foundations

The first thing you must do then is define the core element of your business. Exactly what are you doing, and how are you doing it for. Are your proud of your business. If you are at a party and someone says what do you do, what’s your answer?

For many their response should be I am an unorganised failure most of the time, who puts in 40 plus hours a week and sees less money than someone on the minimum wage.

Ouch that hurt right? But really, for many of us that’s the truth.

You need to clearly define your business, who you are, what you sell, who your audience are and what your exit strategy is for the business.

Can you do that?

Here are a few questions I want you to write down and answer (feel free to leave a comment below)

My core business is
My product or service is
My customers are
If someone asks what I do I say the following

That’s it just answer those questions fully and then we can move on.

Please let me know below what you think

It's all about process

What process do you have in place?

Recently I have been thinking a lot about online businesses, and why people fail when they try to make money online.

Having processes in place in your business is extremely important

So why do you think it is?

Apart from the obvious shiny object syndrome that has to be another reason right?  Not for sure jumping from one thing to another is not good, as it divides your focus. However there has to be more.

Another reason I identified is not having any type of goal in place for your “business”.  As I identified earlier this week many people don’t actually have a business in place. The sell stuff, or do this or that, but there is no real business in place.

What business are you in?

May 22, 2013 by Richard Butler Leave a Comment

Let me ask you a question – what business are you in?

richard butler
Don’t know what business you are in?

It’s an interesting question that I often ask my coaching clients. In fact just the other day I was doing some internet marketing coaching in an informal skype chat. I asked my online friend how they were.  They told me ok, but like so many were struggling a little financially.

My friend works online.  I say he works, not necessarily makes money, but works.  So I asked him what business was he in, who were his customers and exactly what he was selling.

As I expected the answer was a bit of humming and hawing, a bit of silence and then a barrage of words. I make products for people who want to buy them.  I am an information marketer, I am a software developer.
