A different type of post today, about being tired and how it affects you!
Ok let me first start this post with a disclaimer! I am not a medical doctor, never have been, never will be one and have never played one in a movie! (You know with all the legal issues and suing and stuff I have to make that clear!)
Ok so this week for me was a long and unfocussed week. We had a friend staying over with us, so we were out more, going to bed late, and not eating our regular food. Then last Friday night I went out with the gang from work! Oh man bad idea, let’s say after arriving back at 6am and having to get up at 1030am I did not start the weekend off well.
Saturday was a washout, I was so tired but had to keep on smiling (no siesta for me), then we got home late Saturday and had a full on day on Sunday, and so the week continued. My body was playing catch up for the whole weekend.
What I found though, and this is the point of the article, is that my body started to crave more food. Which of course is normal when you think about it – the less energy you have the more fuel you need to power the body, and that fuel usually comes in the form of processed food, chocolates etc. In turn this fuel gives you a temporary boost but then you feel tired again – creating a vicious circle!
Then on Friday I had my company medical so I had to be up at 6:30am in order to get to the doctors at 7:30am – another early morning! When all is told I am not at the point where I am super tired and trying to refocus and get back into my normal routine.
So what does any of this have to do with self help? A very good question, and here is your answer! Our body and mind are connected. When one is not in top form the other suffers. I have seen this myself. I have not been focused on my writing, on preparation I have to do etc. I do it of course but I am not operating at 100%.
If we don’t look after our bodies our minds suffer, if we don’t look after our mind our body suffers. Thus we need to ensure we are feeling both body and mind.
To do this we need to eat well, we need to exercise, we need to rest. Don’t fool yourself thinking you can survive on 5 hours sleep by drinking red bull throughout the day – yes maybe you can for a few days but eventually you will crash, and probably crash hard!
Look after your body and your mind will be fresher.
